About Charl du Plessis



Charl du Plessis completed his articles with Deneys Reitz Attorneys (now Norton Rose Fullbright) in 1992 during which period he focused on insurance litigation, recoveries and conveyancing. He was admitted as an Attorney on 15 September 1992, as a Conveyancer on 19 January 1993 and as a Notary Public on 20 May 1997.


In 1995, Charl joined Arthur Schoeman Attorneys, a specialist property law firm where he focused on property development and in particular sectional titles, shareblocks and the development of Welgevonden Private Game Reserve.


He joined the Corporate and Commercial Department of Fluxmans Attorneys in 1997 where he gained experience in the drafting of corporate and commercial contracts. On 3 March 2000 Charl received his Diploma in Tax Practice from RAU and the LSSA.


Charl started his own practice in 2001 and from 2002 until 2006 he was involved in the turnaround strategy and rescue of MXG Holdings Limited (now Metrofile Holdings Limited), first under the mandate of FRM Strategies with Peter Flack and thereafter under the chairmanship of Chris Seabrooke.


Since 2002 Charl has represented numerous private and public companies, trusts and individuals in all aspects of their commercial dealings and was listed amongst the Financial Mail's top 40 M&A advisers during 2006 and 2007.


In 2008, he represented his client at the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) in Fleet Street, London, during a three week arbitration hearing pertaining to a contractual dispute concerning the sale of shares in a mining company to the value £4,5 million.



From 2008, Charl has been advising on all aspects of the Lords View Industrial Park development, from proclamation to transfers. On 13 August 2009, he obtained his right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. In 2011, Charl completed an Advanced Diploma in Company Law and in 2014 he obtained an Advanced Short Course in Business Rescue Practice from UNISA and the LSSA.
